Gav bursts into a church in the dead of night and claims sanctuary according to an ancient tradition. Its only inhabitant is a peculiar priest who spends his time listening to the morning service on radio four, and has no idea what Gav is talking about.

Outside, the flood waters are rising.

sanctuary took place several times through the night of 2 November 2007 at the Holy Trinity Church, Goodramgate, York. It was commissioned by the City of York as part of their Inspire Festival of new ideas in ancient spaces. It was a stunning success.
